다양한 직종, 출신 나라, 거주지, 나이대의 사람들에게 그들이 살면서 한 번도 가보지 못했지만 가고 싶은 곳 한 곳을 정해 그들의 개인 디바이스와 온라인 계정으로 검색하게 한 다음, 이미지를 수집하고, 장소에 대한 본인의 주관적인 인상을 적게 했다. 검색 결과 안에서 그곳에 대한 정보는 그들의 취향에 의해 선택되고, 검색 결과 또한 그들의 과거 검색 기록, 조회한 정보 기록을 바탕으로 만들어진 알고리즘을 바탕으로 나타나게 된다. 수집된 정보는 그들의 현재 모습 뿐 만 아니라 과거까지 반영하는 것이다. 작가는 이미지와 정보를 바탕으로 각 개인의 유토피아전경을 만든다. 검색 결과는 본인이 과거에 검색해온 데이터를 기반으로 주어지므로 과거의 선택들이 현재의 정보수집에 영향을 미치는 것이다. 과거의 수많은 선택들이 현재 나의 생각을 이룬다.

콘크리트 정글이 아닌 자연 속에서 그것도 사막 한가운데에서 알록달록한 색감을 만끽한다는 것은 언제나 꿈꾸어본 장면이다.

자동차로 달리고 달려 창문 밖으로 베이지색의 모래사막이 보이는 것이 익숙해질 때 즈음, 어느새 신비로운 세상에 도착할 것이다.

마치 다른 행성에 온 듯이 이곳을 나의 두 발로 밟게 되면 나는 구석구석 Leonard Knight의 손길을 느껴볼 것이다.

주변을 둘러보면 여기저기 사진으로 이 순간을 담는 사람들이 가득할 것이고, 나 또한 이 순간을 온전히 느끼기 위해서 나의 감각들을 예리하게 다듬어 모든 것을 기억하려고 할 것이다.

푸른 하늘과 사방이 뻥 뚫린, 눈부신 자연조명이 내리쬐는 이 작품 위에서 한 예술가의 30년의 세월을 느낄 수 있다는 것이 경이롭고, 또 한편으로는 창작가로서 또 다른 다짐을 하게 되지 않을까?

Amelie's Moscow in Russia

In Hollywood films, Russians are almost always spies, hackers, pretty blonds or all three. In independent films, life in Russia is often depicted as monotonous, difficult, unjust and dangerous. Google searches of the most popular sightseeing places show surprisingly colourful palaces, cathedrals and homes. But how does it really feel like to be there?

Moscow will be one of the cities that I want to visit in Russia. Upon landing at the Sheremetyevo international airport, I imagine I'll be immediately confronted with signs filled with the Russian alphabet that looks similar and yet is so different to English. While there, I want to visit a range of sightseeing spots from palaces, cathedrals, art museums, to parks, a toy store and a radio tower. As I travel to these places, I plan to take photographs of the metro stations and document their different interior designs. On the other hand, I also wish to take some time to just walk around the streets and observe - what do the locals look like? What are they doing? Where are they going? What places are popular? What can I hear? What can I smell? Does the overall atmosphere feel comfortable? Do people look stressed or relaxed? Are they walking in a quick pace or strolling leisurely?

중학교 1학년 때 아가사 크리스티의 <오리엔트 특급 살인사건>을 감명 깊게 읽었다. 그래서 이 작품의 주 무대를 직접 경험할 수 있는 오리엔트 특급 열차를 타고 싶었으나 현재는 운영하지 않고있다. 대신 그와 비슷한 베니스 심플론 오리엔트 익스프레스 기차를 타고 런던-파리-베로나-베니스의 1,500km 구간을 여행하며 바깥 풍경도 즐기고, 맛있는 음식도 먹고, 많은 사람들과 이야기도 나누고 싶다. 물론 이 작품에 대해 아는 사람이면 대화가 더 풍부해질 것이다.

Marie-zoe's Santorini in Greece

Santorini is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this place is the contrast between the blue rooftops and the white stones of buildings. I would mainly go there to relax and visit ruins, maybe even hike. The only way I would be able to get there would be by plane (or by boat if it’s from mainland Greece). My favorite thing about this place is probably the mix of all the colors of the city and the fact that it’s facing the sea, where the sunsets are probably breathtaking.

이 곳은 몽골의 테를지 국립공원과 고비 사막입니다. 몽골에서 제일 유명한 관광지이기도 합니다. 이 그 근처에서 해마다 한국의 환경단체들이 몽골 사막화를 방지하기 위해 나무심기 운동을 하고 있습니다. 언젠가 그 곳에 간다면, 차를 타고 도로를 달리며 주변 풍경을 보게 될 것입니다. 드넓은 푸른 초원과 높고 파란 하늘이 보일 겁니다. 며칠간 게르에서 머무르면서 넓은 초원과 사막을 여행하고 싶습니다. 어느 여행지를 가든, 그 나라 사람들만의 표정과 인상이 기억에 남습니다. 평소에 보지 못하던 모습이기 때문입니다. 순박하고 꾸밈없이 자연스러운 몽골 어린이들의 얼굴을 기대하지만, 제가 미리 그들의 모습을 상상하는 것은 결례일 것 같아서 접어두려고 합니다. 제일 기대되는 것은 밤하늘의 별을 보는 것입니다. 몽골의 초원에서 보는 밤하늘이 무척 아름답다고 들었습니다. 하루 일정이 끝나면, 게르에서 나와서, 풀밭에 누워서, 서늘한 바람을 쐬며 별을 보고 싶습니다. 또 기회가 된다면 사막에 나무를 심는 운동에도 참여하고 싶습니다.
