Digital Print on Charmeuse Fabric, hand-sewing and crafting, 450m dimensions variable

Tied Up illustrates a transition from passive consumption to active manipulation of digital images, highlighting the artisan’s intentional engagement with visual content. The work contrasts the fleeting acceptance of images through Instagram feeds with the deliberate, tactile process of crafting. Using personalized advertisements collected from a single user's activity on an algorithm-based platform, the images are printed on fabric and transformed into a 500-meter-long strap.Installed to encircle the exhibition space, the strap confronts viewers with traces of artisanal labor, offering a tangible counterpoint to the ephemeral nature of digital imagery. The project is part of the ongoing series The Algorithm Diary (2021–present), during which thousands of images were collected, printed, and repeatedly cut, sewn, and braided. This iterative process required the artisan to engage deeply and repeatedly with the same images, in sharp contrast to their fleeting presence on smartphone screens. The completed piece merges smooth digital surfaces with tactile craftsmanship, connecting images through sewing and stitching to create volume and physical presence. By embodying a shift from passive interaction to intentional creation, Tied Up invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with digital content and reflect on the active role of agency in a media-saturated world.
