Personal Utopia (Series), 2020-21

Digital print on Hanji and Cotton

Personal Utopia explores how landscapes and ideals are shaped through personalized information environments. In an era when physical location has less influence on individual choice, online images and algorithmic systems increasingly define how places are imagined and valued.

The series consists of digital landscape collages based on images collected through Google searches. Each work reflects a location most frequently associated with an individual’s search patterns, representing a customized utopia constructed through algorithmically arranged information.

Rather than depicting a shared or universal ideal, Personal Utopia visualizes fragmented and individualized visions of the world. The series reveals how online platforms tailor images according to personal data, shaping perception, identity, and our understanding of others in contemporary society.
