Hybrid Sansuhwa, 2020
Digital print on Hanji
72 × 198 cm
Hybrid Sansuhwa is a digital landscape collage that reflects the artist’s experience of multiple places as home. Having lived across Korea, the Czech Republic, Thailand, and the UK, the work brings together fragments of landscapes collected from photographs and online sources into a single composite scene.
While it is impossible to physically inhabit multiple places at once, the digital space allows these locations to coexist. By compiling disparate images into one unified landscape, the work constructs an imagined terrain shaped by memory, longing, and displacement.
Referencing traditional landscape painting while using digital collage, Hybrid Sansuhwa extends beyond a personal narrative to reflect the experiences of contemporary individuals whose lives are shaped by migration across cities, countries, and cultures.
