Fake of a Fake of a Fake (Series), 2025
Acrylic on canvas
Fake of a Fake of a Fake is a painting series that extends the artist’s ongoing project Algorithm Diary into a physical medium. The works translate digitally constructed collages, originally composed from personalized online advertisements, into acrylic paintings.
In contemporary consumer culture, value is often shaped not by the product itself but by the images, signs, and atmospheres that surround it. Advertising operates as a layer of representation that mediates reality, blurring the boundary between what is real and what is fabricated.
By repainting digital collages as paintings, the series removes the pixel-based logic of the screen and introduces material time, gesture, and duration. Through this process, the original advertisements become abstracted layers of imagery, producing repeated distances from their source. What remains is not the product, but a succession of representations that reveal how meaning is constructed and circulated.
The series reflects on consumption, perception, and the persistence of images in a culture increasingly shaped by algorithmic systems.
